A Dream Debut: My Victory at the World Skate Marathon Tour (Shanghai) - By Valentina Cano
There are moments in life you know you’ll never forget—moments that change you forever. For me, that moment came in Shanghai, China, at the opening race of the 2025 World Skate Marathon Tour. I crossed the finish line not just as the winner, but as a girl living her dream at only 17 years old.
But let me start from the beginning.
The Call That Changed Everything
Just twenty days before the event, my family and I received a phone call from our manager, Yolanda Giraldo. She shared news that left us speechless—Rahul Rana and Simmons Rana Racing had selected me to race with their World Team at the Shanghai World Skate Marathon.
It felt surreal. Being chosen by one of the most prestigious names in the sport—a brand that had believed in me long before I had the chance to prove myself on the world stage—was something I never imagined happening, especially so early in my career.
A New Adventure
As the days to the trip approached, my emotions ran high. I was beyond excited, but also a little nervous. China was so far from my home in Colombia, and I had never raced in a marathon before at this stage. But I wasn’t alone—I had my amazing teammates by my side, and Yoli making sure everything was taken care of. From the moment we landed, she treated us like her own children. Every detail, every comfort, every concern—she handled it all.
Our bond as a team grew stronger each day. We trained together, laughed together, and planned our race strategy like a true family. Despite our inexperience in marathons, we had one mission: give it our all and support each other.
Race Day: Cold, Nerves, and Faith
The day of the marathon finally arrived—and it was freezing! But even through the cold, our hearts were full of hope. We prayed as a team, asking God to guide and protect us. That moment of unity gave me strength.
From the very start, the race was intense. Breakaway attempts came one after another, but none stuck—until one skater from Powerslide attacked. Something told me to go with her, and I did.
Nobody followed.
Suddenly, it was just the two of us. I was scared at first—we still had so much distance left—but we worked together, and the gap kept growing. At some point, I realized: we might actually pull this off. And then, it hit me: I might win… my very first marathon.
The Sprint to Victory
As the finish line neared, I gave it everything I had. The final sprint was a blur of adrenaline, fear, joy, and disbelief. And then—it happened.
I WON.
I couldn’t believe it. Tears filled my eyes as I thanked God over and over. Yoli was waiting at the finish line and embraced me with a hug I will never forget. Soon after, my teammates arrived, and we all hugged, cried, and celebrated—because this win was for all of us. It was our dream, and we had lived it—together.
A Platform for Young Skaters
None of this would have been possible without Rahul Rana, owner of Simmons Rana Racing. His belief in young talent, his vision, and his heart for this sport are what set him apart. While other companies chase the already-established champions, Rahul looks for the diamonds in the rough—the skaters who haven’t yet made a name for themselves but carry greatness within.
He saw something in me before the world did. And for that, my family and I are forever grateful.

Hay momentos en la vida que sabes que nunca vas a olvidar—momentos que te marcan para siempre. Para mí, ese momento llegó en Shanghái, China, en la primera carrera del World Skate Marathon Tour 2025. Crucé la meta no solo como ganadora, sino como una chica de 17 años cumpliendo un sueño.
Pero dejemos que te cuente desde el principio.
La Llamada Que Cambió Todo
Solo veinte días antes del evento, mi familia y yo recibimos una llamada de mi mánager, Yolanda Giraldo. Nos dio una noticia que nos dejó sin palabras:
Rahul Rana y Simmons Rana Racing me habían seleccionado para competir con su Equipo Mundial en el World Skate Marathon en Shanghái.
No lo podíamos creer. Ser elegida por una de las marcas más prestigiosas del patinaje—una marca que creyó en mí desde el principio, incluso antes de que tuviera la oportunidad de demostrar mi talento a nivel mundial—era algo que nunca imaginé, y mucho menos tan pronto en mi carrera.
Una Aventura Totalmente Nueva
A medida que se acercaba el viaje a China, sentía una mezcla de emoción y nervios. Era mi primera maratón, y estaba a punto de vivirla en un país tan lejano al mío, Colombia. Pero no estaba sola: tenía a mis increíbles compañeras de equipo a mi lado, y a Yoli cuidando de todo con tanto amor.
Desde el primer día, ella nos trató como si fuéramos sus propios hijos. Cada detalle, cada necesidad, cada duda—ella estuvo allí, pendiente de todo.
Como equipo, fuimos formando un vínculo muy especial. Entrenamos juntas, reímos, compartimos, y planeamos nuestra estrategia con el corazón. Aunque éramos nuevas en maratones, teníamos un objetivo claro: darlo todo y apoyarnos mutuamente.
El Gran Día: Frío, Nervios y Mucha Fe
El día de la carrera llegó… ¡y estaba helando! Pero a pesar del frío, nuestros corazones estaban llenos de ilusión. Oramos juntas, entregándole todo a Dios, pidiéndole que nos guiara y protegiera. Ese momento de unión me dio una fuerza especial.
La carrera empezó con muchísimos intentos de fuga, pero todos fueron neutralizados—hasta que una patinadora de Powerslide atacó.
Sentí que debía ir con ella, y lo hice.
Nadie más nos siguió.
De repente, éramos solo ella y yo. Al principio sentí miedo—todavía faltaba mucho camino—pero seguimos trabajando juntas y la ventaja fue creciendo. Ya no veíamos al pelotón… y empecé a pensar: ¿será que lo vamos a lograr?
Y entonces me di cuenta: puede que gane… en mi primera maratón.
El Sprint de la Vida
Cuando llegó el momento del sprint final, lo di todo. Fue un torbellino de adrenalina, emoción, miedo y gratitud. Y luego… sucedió:
¡GANÉ!
No lo podía creer. Lloré de alegría y agradecí a Dios con todo mi corazón. Yoli me recibió con un abrazo que guardaré para siempre. Poco después llegaron mis compañeras de equipo, y todas nos abrazamos entre lágrimas, alegría e incredulidad.
Habíamos cumplido nuestro sueño.
Una Plataforma para los Jóvenes
Nada de esto hubiera sido posible sin Rahul Rana, dueño de Simmons Rana Racing. Su capacidad para ver el talento joven, su visión y su corazón para este deporte son lo que lo hacen diferente.
Mientras otras marcas esperan a que los patinadores ya sean campeones, Rahul los apoya cuando aún son promesas.
